Match Report – Orford – 1st Sept

Club members arrived on Orfordness beach for their latest match to find the reports that the whiting had arrived were correct. These together with a few dogfish and baby smoothhounds for variety made for non-stop action for the first couple of hours and there were concerns that the ragworms baits might run out before the end of the match. Fortunately this did not happen as the action eased when the tide began to ebb. With a catch of 20 whiting, 5 dogfish, a couple of eels and a smoothhound Barrie Senior racked up 555 fish points to take the match and the Braintree & Witham Times Cup. In second place Chris Leonard had 12 whiting, 2 dogfish, 2 smoothhounds and a sole for 356 fish points. Mike Namock in his first outing for a few months had 11 whiting, 3 smoothhound, 2 dogfish and the first codling of the season for 336 fish points and third place.

Match Report – Aldeburgh Sluice – 18th August

Unlike the anglers the fish didn’t seem to appreciate the warm conditions with only a few pin whiting and a small sole caught most falling to ragworm baits. Barrie Senior caught six whiting for 58 fish point and the cup. Stephen Andrews and Robin Joy shared second spot with 32 fish points apiece. Robin will be collecting the Summer League cup at the end of the year having amassed 40 match points over the series. Runner up with 20 points was Barrie Senior with Tim Maples third on 17 points.
