Beach Match – Languard Point
May 25 @ 11:27 am – 12:27 pm

The Boys from Braintree and the Black Mountains descended on Languard Beach for their latest Epic encounter and to avoid helping her indoors with the decorating.

Representing the Black Mountains was Graham Von Nash(friend of Von Trapp) who could regularly be heard whistling Eidelweiss and I was Keiser Bills Batman as he pulled in yet another whiting.

Representing deepest Essex was Drake the Elder, the one wearing earplugs to avoid the whistling.

The weather was overcast for most of the day with a gentle breeze from behind making fishing easy.

Once on the beach we turned left to avoid the tern nesting grounds but not before we heard a mother tern ask her fledgeling if he would like a brother, yes he said, ‘one good tern deserves another’ On the ebb small weed stuck to the line which was a pain, it was easier to keep cutting the shock leader and retying it, (my shock leaders are now about 4ft long) fortunately it eased off after high tide. With high tide at 11am we fished 8.30 to 14.30.

Fishing was hit and miss with a number of whiting and a couple of doggies, the biggest at 57 cm caught by Herr Von Trapp.

The biggest whiting came in at a cool 31cm to a fish bait.

Results:

  • Essex Boy 1st with 19 fish (18 whiting, 1 doggie) for 248 points
  • Herr V T 2nd with 4 fish (3 whiting, 1 doggie) 97 points
