Gerry Armstrong Memorial Open Boat Match

Winner of £200 was Derek Harris with a Cod of 11lb 3oz

Winner of £50 was Alan Porter with a Whiting of 4lb 9oz

Braintree SAC finally ran their 2009 Gerry Armstrong Memorial small boat open match from Felixstowe Ferry on Sunday have been spared by the weather gods. Sunday conditions were very good and the 9 boats managed to go where their Skippers favourite marks were from the Whiting bank in the North, the Towers in the South and the Shipwash in the East. The Match was for the Biggest Cod and the biggest Thornback Ray (Roker) but the spring run has been delayed due the water temperature this year, so fish have been hard to find. The winner of the £200 cash prize was Derek Harris fishing from "Dancer" with a cod of 11lb.03oz, second was Tony Goodman fishing from Herring Hammer with a cod of 8lb.13oz and third and top club member was Chris Leonard fishing from Vixen with a cod of 8lb. the other cash prize of £50.00 went to club member Alan Porter fishing from Herring Hammer with a 4lb.09oz Roker. Alan was very lucky to be able to fish as match rules state that 2 anglers must be in each boat for safety reasons and having bought his rods and barrowed some bait he was able to jump in with Herring Hammer. Most anglers / boats managed to catch a few cod, whiting etc and with a nice table of raffle prizes everybody went home happy and sun tanned.

THANKS to all the members and competitors who made the GAM again the top open small boat competition in this area. We will be holding the 2010 GAM on November 21st if the weather gods smile on us again and will be fishing for the biggest cod and Whiting. Everybody is welcome.
